At Hamilton’s in San Diego having hop sausage and beers from Stone, Ballast Point and Backstreet. Life here is awesome!
Chocolate Indulgence. True Belgian-Style Chocolate Stout. Very creamy with lots of chocolate (obviously) but not overpowering. Very nice beer.
Double Simcoe IPA This beer is 100% Simcoe hops from our understanding and is absolutely fantastic. Considering how little they use hops on the East Coast, the Heavens opened up when we first sipped this beer. Next road trip…..Easton PA.
08 Ichabod with Christmas dinner.
this is a blegian inspired imperial stout that weighs in at a whopping 13.6%, but doesnt taste that big. i would give it 8 outta 10
Kevin brought some beers for Christmas. Scarecrow from Wychwood, blueberry ale from Buffalo Bill and a Bear Republic black stout. Thanks Kev!
Bourbon barrel aged Black Marlin porter from Ballast Point. A lot of bourbon in the nose but not much in the finish. Still delicious.
Matt and Kevin (I like to call him Todd — ask him why) are over at Churchill’s getting ready to drink some Lost Abbey beers. They asked us to join them, but it’s Christmas Eve and we’re home with the kids so they’ll just have to make due without us.
Winter Ale. This beer is more of a Bock Beer. It’s dark and malty and finishes clean. A very good beer.
Old Man Winter Ale. A winter ale with lots of spices and even more hops. Not a bad beer.
Ruben & The Jets. It’s another Frank Zappa Tribute beer. This one is similar to a porter with a lot of bitter coffee. It’s very tasty. Then again, it’s Lagunitas so we expect that
Hope everyone is having a good pagan holiday. I know I am.
Black Chocolate Stout. Insert whatever pun you feel necessary. As for the beer, it has 6 varieties of black, chocolate, and roasted malts. It’s got some bitter chocolate notes, however it’s a little light on mouthfeel. Which could be dangerous considering it’s 10% abv.
Sam Adams Hallertau Imperial Pilsner. An Intense Hop Experience. The label doesn’t lie. It has immense hop aroma like a double IPA, yet finishes clean like a Pilsner should. We would reccomend this beer to anyone.
fordham (Dover, DE) dopplebock lager 8% decent but nothing spectacular bought at a place called “beers & cheers” owner was awesome singing xmas carols the whole time
As a few of you have observed, in an attempt to bring ever more interesting beer pix, we’ve recently added several new contributors to the blog. So you can connect the beers with the names we’d like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our new beer bloggers. Matt Dolman, Foreign Correspondent Accountant by […]
Yuengling Traditional Lager Original Amber Beer is a favorite beer of a beer drinking colleague of mine. She was heading back to Pottsville, PA for a visit, and since it is not available out here I gave her some advice on how to pack it and get some back in her luggage. With creative packing […]
Molly knocking back a Walker’s Reserve barrel-aged porter.
Lona’s having Dogfish Head Chicory Stout and I’m having the Baltic Porter
Old Dominion Baltic Porter Winter Brew
One for me, one for Tomme Arthur. I had to drive in ice rain to get it. How fitting.

A quick shot of the taplist at Library Alehouse. Not bad for a Thursday lunchtime. Hey, look! Potato leek soup – sweet!
At the Library Alehouse in Santa Monica, CA. I’m waiting for BeerSage to get out of a meeting and stopped in for a nice pint.
As followers of Beer Molly know, one of our daughters got married this past weekend. With the planning and logistics, personalities, conflicts, and minor life traumas of what society refers to as a “wedding,” we haven’t had much time to pic or post in the past couple of weeks. But “not much” isn’t “none”, because […]
ok. now we’ve moved on from Vertical Epic to Firestone Walker. 12 is first
Friday we took the time to visit a few local brew pubs/ breweries in Colorado Springs. Trinity Brewing – Awaken Stout Trinity Brewing – Flo IPA Our next stop was Phantom Canyon Brewing Co. At Phantom Canyon I chose the beer sampler of the eight beers they had on tap. My brother chose a pint […]
I had to make a pick-up at the airport at mid-night so beer consumption was way down yesterday. I was able to to make the required beer run to get us through today. The first beer yesterday was Il Vicino Brewing Company – Wet Mountain IPA. It appears the beer is brewed and bottle for […]
I was immediately excited and then disappointed when I found out the the Bar Trail that we were going to do is actually a trail and not a row of bars. After the walk we headed home. We opened a couple of beers and then it we decided to sample some of the beers I […]
We concluded the evening with some beers they had bought for me, in anticipation of my arrival. Stone IPA and a Stone Pale Ale. Then it was time for a little shut-eye. Today we are planning on going on a hike and then visit some local brew pubs.
Next was Odell’s winter brew called Isolation Ale. It was by far the best beer of the night. Well balanced…yummy. We each polished off three of those.
Bristol’s Winter Warlock Oatmeal Stout. The liquor store had a bottle of XXX Winter Warlock for $15.00 for 12oz listed at 18% alcohol. That might be worth a try.
Next was Bristol’s Red Rocket Pale Ale.
After the beer run, while loading the fridge my brother opened a Levity for his wife and she wanted wine, so I got it. Beer number 5 was Rocky Mountain IPA from Fort Collins Brewery. Not near the big IPAs we have in California, it was closer to the IPA’s from the east coast. Much […]
Last night was my first night in Colorado. Since I am unable to post from my phone (stupid sprint/ nextel) I am doing it now. The first one for the night was Levity Amber Ale by Odell Brewing Co. It was a nice start to the evening. It was not sweet like many ambers taste […]
Ashley from Wingnuts says goodbye to BeerSage
Juanita’s not much of a beer drinker, but you give her a shot glass full of butterscotch schnapps, Irish cream and whipped cream, as she’ll down it like a python swallowing a whole chicken.
Celebrating end of one era and the beginning of another
I can not believe I am still only in the C’s in loading the I-Pod. I have Cracker, then Cramps, then Creedence, Jim Croce, Sheryl Crow…it goes on and on.
Trying to make the best of loading music onto the new I-Pod. It has been > hours and I am only in the C’s. A couple of beers will help.

Yeah, yeah, I know, the Lost Abbey Barrel Tasting Night was over a week ago and I still haven’t posted the photos. Sorry. I was busy. I’m posting them now. Please stop calling and hanging up. (You know who you are.) Anyway, the barrel party was once again a great evening. Beyond the 12 regular […]
It’s 80 degrees in mid-November and I’m not feeling autumn. Decided to have a Hop Trip fresh hopped IPA from Deschutes. I like the mild, grassier flavor of fresh hops over the pellet stuff on hot days.
This isn’t specifically a beer pic, so much as a “post beer” pic. As we were leaving Sin City Brewing in Planet Hollywood we happened across this in the parking garage: What you can’t see in this photo is the black drag marks from the cone’s stand on the floor of the parking garage. They […]
For as long as I can remember there’s been one “must stop” place along Highway 15 on the road to Vegas — Bun Boy in Baker, Calif., home to the world’s largest thermometer. (Also across the street from Alien Beef Jerkey.) Over the past few years taken to flying out to Vegas because it’s only […]
At Sin City storefront in Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. Beer isn’t exactly stellar, just four basic lagers, but it’s a good place to stop, have a pint and watch people go by.
Dunkels und pretzels at der Hofbrauhaus. Ser gut!
Rolled in here on Wednesday morning for a couple of liters of Dunkel and some wurst.
A little work at home is tolerable with a Ballast Point – Sculpin IPA in hand, (sip) aahhhhhhh.
Cleve isn’t much of a beer drinker, but when he hits the hard stuff, he hits it hard.
it must be fall, both Evil Dead Red n Jubelale
She was in the GABF video. He’s a big fan of my blogging.
We got a few dozen pounds of wild grapes from Sheldon, a local farmer and Abbey frequenter. Tomme’s gonna do some barrel magic. Maybe a sour; maybe a stout.
This is good beer
A couple of folks from Vienna dropped by the brewery last night (alas, I didn’t get their names) for a tour. Turns out they come to San Diego a lot to play golf and visit breweries. Not a bad holiday.
This is Cali Belgi frm Stone. Belgian IPA tastes like Bazooka bubblegum.
Back at Backstreet for lunch today. Octoberfest and TenFidy with pizza and beer buddies.
It’s official. Port Brewing and the Lost Abbey have distribution in Chicago. (Click here for press announcement.) In support of the new availability, Tomme Arthur will be doing several dinners and appearances in the area. If you’re in the area, make sure to drop by and meet the guy. Tell him Beer Molly & Sage […]
On October 15, 2008 the Associated Press ran story by Eric Gorsky titled “Finding God at a beer festival.” It began: In the beginning, there was a long line for Judgment Day ale. Shortly after the doors opened on the 27th Great American Beer Festival, a crowd congregated at the booth offering that and other […]
Wing Nuts in Aliso Viejo, Calif. has a fairly nice tap list. Sure it’s heavy of the Ameri-fizz, but it’s got some pretty good stuff too. Black Butte and Stone IPA for starters.
Decipher this and you have the secret to Truth number 4
Pure Hoppiness from Alpine Beer Co.

It’s official. The 2008 Lost Abbey Barrel tasting night will be Saturday, November 15 from 7pm to 10pm. Beyond the dozen or so beers Tomme plans to pull out of his barrel archive, guests are also going to get to bottle and label their own limited edition release of Veritas 04. Chef Vince will also […]
I just posted a photo slideshow from last Saturday’s (October 18) Patron Sinners and Saints party over at The Lost Abbey website. The atmosphere was cool — the brewery lit only by candles and strategic lighting under the barrels and it was great to see so many Sinners and Saints together for the first time. […]
By now lots of people have chimed in with their thoughts and experiences regarding this year’s GABF, so I’m not going to clog up the interwebs with yet another long-winded post about this brewery or that beer. Rather, I’m just going to share a few impressions and move on. This was only our second trip […]
Cascade and Amarillo now run the place. Humans are still welcome if they bring a can of tuna and don’t disturb their naps.
This is a photo from the Juliet wildfire as it advances over the hill in three places (one is just to the right that you can’t see). Right now it’s heading toward those houses in the valley. To see a photo gallery taken from our deck click this link.
Must be October because the wildfires are buring again. Here’s a view about 2 miles from our back deck Update: The fire has a name. It’s “Juliet.”
We’ll be posting a recap of the 2008 GABF and plenty of photos soon. We flew back to San Diego from Denver last night (Sunday the 12th) and haven’t had a chance to sort through the pix just yet. Stay tuned.
Apparently the beer fest is not on google maps.
GABF is such a big time in Denver that even royalty makes it out. Here’s Matt w/the Alpha King at Falling Rock.
Ivan and Matt are excited that Sandlot is open. but then again, they also get excited about spreadsheets.
A uick Howdy to all my Texas friends…remember drinking this when we were younger. Neither do I.
