The B & B has a honor bar stocked with St. Bernardus beers. Liquid refreshments were necessary after biking appox. 30 miles through Belgium’s countryside. I grabbed the Watou Tripel and the lady had the Grottenbier.
The happy Belgian had been smiling back at me for a couple years from the back of my fridge until I popped the cork the other night… This Belgian Quad tasted very smooth, malty and delicious! Better than I remember!
Although not a “certified” Abbey beer due to brewery location, it certainly tastes very similar to that made by the Trappist Abbey of St. Sixtus at Westvleteren (very limited availability) that we tasted while touring breweries in Belgium last year!
