St. Bernardus Tripel

Although not a “certified” Abbey beer due to brewery location, it certainly tastes very similar to that made by the Trappist Abbey of St. Sixtus at Westvleteren (very limited availability) that we tasted while touring breweries in Belgium last year!

Yes, the now St. Bernardus brewery site in Watou made beer for St. Sixtus 1946-1992; then, it was decided that Trappist beers could then only be brewed within the walls of the Trappist Monastery. Thus, the St. Bernardus name…. Interesting, yeah? Yummy, too!
