Last Saturday’s beer gathering number 2

Session one of the Belgian Beer Party, at Carlsbad Pizza Port, has already started and I hope to finish this post before the live posts start trickling in.  Beer gathering #2 had some real treats..

First was Surly Brewing Co Oktoberfest beer called Surly Fest Lager.

Followed shortly by Weyerbacher Riserva 2008.  Ale with Raspberry Puree added and aged in Oak Barrels.  Almost sounds like a smoothie and might need a filter, but no…

Next was a 2006 Cantillon Iris.

Beer Sage could no longer control his artistic talent and creates his own Mona Lisa on the bottom of Kristin’s feet.

Look at the detailed expressions of each face..truly inspiring..

It inspired me to try another beer..

Wouldn’t you know that as soon as I opened a Pliny the Elder, someone pops the cork on this…

For those of you that have it, it needs more time in the bottle.   Though still yummy, it had no carbonation..zilch, nada, zero

Next was Black Chocolate Stout from Brooklyn Brewery.

About this time we tried to cleanse our palettes with some 23-year old whiskey – Black Maple Hill – Single Barrel Rye

Rummaging through the fridge we found an old favorite..Oskar Blues Ten Fidy

I finished off my Pliny the Elder and headed home for some much needed rest.  Sunday was another busy day…
