Yum. Nice juicy hop nose. Flavor is sweeter than expected, with little to no bitterness. 32oz went down waaay to fast. All that and clocked in at 8.5% ABV. What’s not to love.
…at home; and who doesn’t want some fun, mandatory or not. The beer, a nice 9.3% double IPA from the fine folks at Hess Brewings. Piney and citrusy nose, and the flavor doesn’t disappoint. Yum.
Going deep into the ‘ol beer drawer. Piney and resinous, medium malt body with good lingering hop bitterness. Quite impressed by how well this has held up. I would have thought it would be more barleywine-ish, with softening hop profiles. Can time-stamped 6-Years Down, 11/01/18, so upwards of 9.3 years in dog beers.
…to find that Stone Brewings 23rd anniversary beer is an IPA. I’m sure the words on the back of the bottle would tell the story of the “uncanny anni”, but don’t want to dig into the recycle bin, and, truth be told…I don’t really care. The beer itself is ok. Resinous hoppy nose, malty base […]
I don’t recall this 8.2% ABV double IPA from Mother Earth Brew Co. being so fruity. Quite nice.
She enjoyed the dessert-like Guava Libre!, a collaboration beer The Bruery and Funky Budda. Think milkshake IPA, minus the hop bitterness, with added vanilla and sweet fruit. They even let it ferment enough to get up to 7.5% ABV. I, on the other hand, got the Consolation Prize. This 9.5% ABV double IPA, from the […]
Another Stone double IPA, this one made with Loral and Dr. Rudi’s hops and clocking in at 8.9% ABV. I got a strong nose of melon, sweet malts, alcohol and resinous hops. Melon less pronounced as it warmed, and couldn’t identify another smell I was getting….she smelled cauliflower, which I’m not getting at all. Flavor […]
Quite happy with this 8.4% ABV DIPA from Alaska’s Anchorage Brewing Company. It pours hazy, but with pronounced hop bitterness it’s not really a NE-style IPA.
Quite happy with this 8% ABV double IPA made with passionfruit juice from Massachusetts Brewmaster Jack. The sweet malt flavors emphasize the fruit notes and do a great job of masking the 90 IBU indicated on the label.
It may have been murky when bottling and when first on draft, but by the time I poured to enjoy this unfiltered double IPA, it was chunky. An enjoyable West Coast double IPA, but nothing outstanding.
